I’m very confident that I can do 20 miles at 8:45 pace, but if I don’t push myself for 8 pace, I don’t see how I’m suddenly gonna push myself for 8 for 26.2 miles.Get ready for your first Marathon by training with Hal Higdon the best known running author and athlete. Getting to my question……the program recommends doing ALL of the long runs at a slower pace (8:45/9 min/mile if targeting 8 min/mile), but that makes no sense to me-how can I go out and run 26.2 miles at 8 min/mile when the best I’ve done is 20 miles at 8:45? I’ve done some reading, but would really like to hear input from others. I know that I’ll injure myself if I try to do all of these at the 8 min per mile pace, so I’m planning to do the 16 and 20 miles runs at 8 min/mile and the others at 8:45/9 min/mile. My legs are a bit sore/minor injuries, but Advil has been keeping me decent. The most I’ve done is 13.1 and I felt like I had another few in the tank. I’m targeting an 8 minute per mile pace and have been doing all of my runs (long runs included) at that pace so far. Also, training for my first marathon on Nov 21. Hi All!
